Marriage Licenses

Couples getting married in the State of NH may apply for a marriage license at any Town Clerk's Office in the State. Both parties must be present at the Town Clerk's office when applying for the license. It takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to process a marriage license, therefore, no marriage license will be issued less than forty five (45) minutes before the Town Clerk's Office closes. The State of NH does not require a blood test and there is no waiting period after the marriage license has been issued but there is a 90 day expiration date on each license. 

Required Documentation & Information Provided by Each Party:
  • Proof of Age & Picture ID - Both parties must be at least 18 years of age
  • Widow: Certified copy of death certificate for the deceased spouse
  • Annulment: Certified copy of annulment if an applicant's previous marriage was annulled
  • Divorce: Certified copy of divorce or dissolution decree if an applicant is divorced
  • Full Name
  • Address
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • State of Birth
  • Father's Full Name and State of Birth
  • Mother's Full Name (Maiden) and State of Birth

Fee: $50.00

After the Ceremony: After the Officiant has filed the marriage license with the Town Clerk's Office, certified copies of the marriage certificate will be available for $15 for the first copy and $10 for additional copies issued at that time. These copies are not automatically generated, but must be requested at the Town Clerk's Office by the couple. 

The Officiant must return the marriage license to the Town Clerk within SIX (6) days of the date of marriage and it must be returned to the clerk that issued it!
